【What is Soda Yaki? 】
Soda firing is a special ceramic making technique characterized by adding soda or soda ash to the kiln during the high-temperature firing process. When the soda combines with the high-temperature atmosphere in the kiln, it forms a vapor that reacts with the clay and minerals on the ceramic surface to create a glaze with a special texture and color.

The color and texture of soda-fired porcelain depends on a variety of factors, such as the way the soda is added (spraying, throwing, etc.), the firing temperature, the atmosphere (oxidation or reduction), and the clay and mineral composition of the ceramic itself. This gives each Soda-fired ceramic piece a unique look and personality.

The technique of soda-fired porcelain originated in the mid-20th century, when American potters began experimenting with the method, hoping to create an effect similar to traditional salt-glazed ceramics. Traditional salt glaze ceramics are made by adding salt to a high-temperature kiln to form a layer of glaze with luster and color changes. Soda-fired porcelain has a similar texture, but due to the different chemical properties of soda and salt, the glaze effects they produce during the firing process are also different.

Over time, soda-fired porcelain has become increasingly popular among potters and collectors around the world, becoming a unique modern ceramic art form.
