This work is a copycat of a pot-making master from the Ming Dynasty Chen Wenqing’s work [Flat Pot]. Chen Wenqing was one of the "Four Great Purple Clay Masters" during the Wanli Period of the Ming Dynasty. His works are elegant and majestic, comparable to those of Xu Youquan, Li Zhongfang and others.

This pot is oblate in shape, with a short straight line that complements the body of the pot. It has round ears, a wide mouth, and a round button on the lid. The overall shape is elegant. The bottom of the pot has the seal script "Made by Chen Wenqing" in Yangwen square.

"Lantang Zisha" originated in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. According to legend, in order to satisfy his preference for purple clay pots, the owner of Lan Tang began to make purple clay pots by himself, and continued to improve and innovate to create unique purple clay pot styles. The work is famous for its fine workmanship, beautiful shape and unique color. The craftsmanship materials are also very particular. It must be made of high-quality purple clay and hand-made. It must be carefully kneaded, shaped, carved and fired through multiple processes. It is quite time consuming.
