Many people pay more attention to the effects when choosing health supplements, but the naturalness of the ingredients is also an important point to consider. In recent years, Hong Kong residents have been focusing on health preservation, leading to a variety of health teas appearing on the market, which can be overwhelming for consumers. Among the many health teas, one that has garnered considerable discussion is Jia Ye Long Tea. How much do you know about this tea?
Introduction to GABA Tea
GABA Tea, also known as Jialong Tea, first appeared in Japan and is fermented using anaerobic technology to increase the content of γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the tea leaves. It is a natural, additive-free tea product. GABA has excellent health benefits, which is why it is very popular in Japan.
The uniqueness of this tea lies in its production method. The harvested tea leaves are spread out on the ground to wither for a day, and then placed in a vacuum environment where nitrogen is injected, allowing the tea leaves to ferment in an oxygen-free state. This method produces a large amount of GABA, giving Jialong Tea its beneficial health effects. Moreover, the GABA is transformed from the raw tea leaves without the addition of any chemical components, making Jialong Tea a purely natural tea product.
Effects and suitable groups of Jiayelong tea
Jia Ye Long Tea is not a medicinal tea, but as a health and wellness choice for Japanese people, it effectively improves the small ailments caused by irregular meal times, frequent social engagements, and disrupted day-night cycles that modern individuals often experience. Below, we will detail the benefits of Jia Ye Long Tea and the suitable groups of people for its consumption.
lower blood pressure
Urban dwellers often consume foods high in salt, which can easily lead to high blood pressure issues. Since the late 1950s, the medical community has studied and concluded that the γ-aminobutyric acid found in Jia Ye Long tea has the effect of lowering blood pressure, and it can improve discomforts such as headaches and dizziness caused by high blood pressure without any side effects.
Sobering up and preventing hangovers
Jia Ye Long Tea not only contains a large amount of GABA but is also rich in alanine, which is very helpful for alleviating intoxication and preventing hangovers. According to research, drinking Jia Ye Long Tea before consuming alcohol can reduce the blood alcohol concentration by nearly 20% to 30%. Experiment participants who consumed Jia Ye Long Tea were able to metabolize the alcohol in their bodies in just 3 hours, which is 2 hours faster than the average person who typically takes 5 hours.
Sleep peacefully
In the past, some people found it hard to sleep after drinking tea, but Jialong tea contains a high amount of GABA, a substance known as a "natural tranquilizer" for the human body. It can alleviate mental stress, such as common symptoms among urban dwellers like mental tension, anxiety, and insomnia. Additionally, it has excellent effects on the physical and mental discomfort experienced by menopausal women. Regular drinkers of Jialong tea not only do not have sleep issues, but it can also help them fall asleep, promote metabolism, and relieve stress and fatigue.
The unique production method of Jialong tea means that there are no restrictions on the types of tea used; different varieties can be made into Jialong tea through vacuum fermentation technology. Therefore, when this tea was introduced from Japan to Taiwan, it led to the meeting of Taiwanese oolong tea and Jialong tea. Now, let me introduce to you the locally produced 【Jialong】 Jialong tea!
Appearance of tea leaves and the brew
Jialong is an organic tea garden from Nantou, Taiwan, using Four Seasons Oolong as its base tea. Observing the appearance of the dry tea leaves, they are not significantly different from other Oolongs, as they are all semi-spherical, plump, and smooth. The color is similar to charcoal-roasted Oolong, with a dark green hue slightly tinged with red.

After brewing, the wet tea leaves maintain the complete form of "one bud and two leaves"; the leaves show a reddish hue from the edges to the center, indicating that the tea has undergone fermentation, and the serrated edges of the leaves are also characteristic of oolong tea. The tea of Jialong is amber in color, bright and clear.
(After brewing, the tea leaves unfold, revealing their shape and high integrity.)
(The color of the tea soup is clear, bright and even in color.)
Aroma, texture and taste
The aroma of Jialong is similar to that of Oriental Beauty tea, with a rich fragrance that carries a sweet fruity scent. The texture of the tea soup is delicate and smooth, with a mellow flavor. In terms of taste, Jialong has a strong aftertaste that is rich and sweet. Upon careful tasting, the unique fruity acidity in the tea soup leaves drinkers with an endless aftertaste.
(Jialong’s tea has a thick texture, high smoothness and sweetness, and the tea can be brewed six times, with excellent brewing resistance.)
Matching teaware
Although Jaye Long Tea does not have specific requirements for tea brewing utensils, you can choose a gaiwan or a purple clay teapot. However, since Jialong's tea base is Four Seasons Spring Oolong, Cha-Tailor recommends using a zhu ni purple clay teapot, as it helps to enhance the aroma.
